We had an incredible time showing a group of seven Marist students around South Italy and Capri last weekend.
Although storm clouds seemed always on the horizon, the group dodged the rains as they hopped on a ferry from Sorrento to Capri and back. In fact, apart from one drizzly evening, the weather was clear, sunny and the perfect for lounging on the beach and swimming. One evening, the group was fortunate enough to witness a dry thunderstorm that illuminated the sky over Capri for two hours!
To escape the crowds, the group chartered a private wooden sailboat that took them to the "Green Grottos." Here, they swam through caves and over-hanging cliffs that reflected brilliantly in shades of blue and green. Afterwards, they returned to town for a three-course dinner complete with Sea Bass, steak and pasta.
Other highlights from the weekend included a hike to the top of the peaks surrounding Anacapri, yoga on the beach and a fireworks show.Toward the end of the weekend, the group got a behind-the-scenes look into the ruins of Pompeii. Their local guide, Salvatore, took them through locked gates to view ancient homes, walled gardens and bath houses that few other tourist get to see.
After several days packed with swimming, hiking, exploring and lounging on the beach, everyone was more than ready to crash on the train ride home.
All in all, everybody had a great time and the trip was a huge success!
